01 / The idea

From SE to SEC.

CR-6 SEC is an ongoing, versioned project. I’m starting with the standard CR-6 SE bed-slinger frame and redesigning the extruder/toolhead assembly. The CoreXY conversion, enclosure and filament system are later stages.

Measurements and results will be added as the build develops.

One printer. Four versions.

  1. V1

    Cartesian / toolhead

Keep the standard CR-6 SE frame and bed-slinger layout. Redesign the extruder/toolhead end of the printer.

  2. V2

    CoreXY conversion

Convert the motion system to CoreXY: the bed moves vertically on Z, while the XY gantry stays at a fixed height.

  3. V3

    Enclosure

Enclose the printer, with the aim of making engineering materials easier to work with.

  4. V4

    Filament handling

Add a filament dryer and an AMS-style automatic filament-changing system.

First entry — project brief

V1 starts with the original Cartesian frame and a redesigned extruder/toolhead. V2 is the CoreXY conversion, with a vertically moving bed and an XY gantry at fixed height. V3 adds an enclosure for engineering materials; V4 adds a dryer and an AMS-style filament changer. Work is currently on V1; later versions are plans.
